Install these in the exactly the same way you would an old-fashioned incandescent light bulb. Make sure the light is switched off at the socket, insert your new energy saving light bulb, and... let out a victory cry! It only took you a minute to reduce the energy consumption of that light fitting by a whopping 80%.
Energy saving light bulbs should be used in exactly the same way as the old (incandescent) bulbs. Although they do use only a quarter of the energy, leaving them on all the time is a total waste of money, and defeats the object of their existence. And even though they need a little extra energy to power up, you should always stick to the rule of turning a light off when you leave a room, even if you're only going out for a short while...
If you're not happy with the particular wattage or fitting on these ones then you'll find lots of different types in the shops. The extra price is easily justified by their long life spans - so why buy any other kind?
